The Big Brother/Big Sister Peer Mentoring Program has proudly served our community for 26 years, having been recognized by the National Big Brother Big Sister Organization in 1996. Our mission is to support the junior high students as they transition into high school by pairing them with positive role models—our dedicated junior and senior volunteers. This educational program is a Peer Mentoring Program which dedicates time in supporting students through peer mentoring and school focused events. The foundation of this program is fundamentally based around the Big Brother/Big Sister Organization and helps develop students’ social emotional skills by enhancing cognitive and social skills during adolescent stages of youth. The Big Brother/Big Sister Peer Mentoring Program, SAC collaborates with the Boys and Girls Club director to help students unite during the after school hours and to support special events for the community.

Students in grades 9 through 12 may take Journalism as a year long elective. This class offers students an opportunity to hone their writing skills and keep students, staff, teachers, and the Paulsboro area updated on school and community news.
Those who cannot take the class when it’s offered can still be part of the Paulsentinel staff, assisting in writing articles, editing, and taking photographs for out our newspaper.
Students who are looking for a challenge and who enjoy learning about and working with their peers and staff in our school would be a good fit. Becoming a member of the Paulsentinel staff would also be an excellent addition to college applications and resumes.

Students United for Respect and Equality
S.U.R.E. (Students United for Respect and Equality)
Mission: to improve school climate by providing a forum dedicated to combating challenges such as discrimination through the promotion of tolerance and respect.
History: SURE is an organization that was founded at Paulsboro High School in the 1990’s in response to increased violence in schools. Its founder was former teacher and school leader William A. Gaines. S.U.R.E. was so well thought of by then Gloucester County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark Stanwood that is was recommended to be adopted in all Gloucester County high schools.
The annual highlight of S.U.R.E. is the S.U.R.E. Summit held each spring at Rowan University. All Gloucester County high schools participate is this day of speakers and workshops aimed at empowering our youth in their lives and communities against all types of discrimination.
S.U.R.E. is an after-school organization that meets once a week throughout the school year. Membership is open to all PHS students. Attendance is not mandatory for participation – students are encouraged to attend meetings when they can. Meetings consist of open discussion groups, activities, and outreach projects. We hope you encourage your child to stop by any Thursday to see what SURE is all about.

Yearbook is a year-long, five credit, business/technology class, that produces the school yearbook, The Pegasus. This class will count towards one of the required technology credits. Members of the staff are expected to have a high level of maturity and the ability to work independently. Students will be responsible for the production, design, and publication of the school yearbook. This production based course requires both in class and after school time because of schedule demands. Time management and personal organizational skills are emphasized in order to produce the yearbook on time and within budget guidelines. This is a wonderful opportunity for members of the team to exercise their creativity, while developing new skills in computer design, photography, copywriting, and project management. Creating the yearbook is a fun process and the end result of all the effort is a product the students can be proud of.
